Connect and Eatz Magazine

Our Story - No body reads this stuff anyway? LOL. Edited June 1st 2013. Here is a little bit about us and how to get a free copy of a past magazine issue here.
Hi and welcome to year (3.5/ 4) of this adventure. 2013. It has been a journey of many various and trying experiences and we welcome the new summer warmth.
We have edited this "column" to reflect the business and not so much the emotional effort that went into creating it. We hope you will understand the belief we all have in this project. This project was born from idea to actually get out an reconnect with people and has been part of a masters project for the past year and half.
It will birth (we hope :-)) into an awesome business in 2013 and 2014. We hope to see you on board! Please forgive us if we missed anything within the context of this article in our editorial process.
Year one (1) 2010: Was the year of the leading to of the launch of this nutty idea of the creation of this experiment. I say nutty as at that point as it was just the beginning of doing this masters project about launching this idea of, and in trying to figure out how to turn a simple idea of getting people together on a higher level of food, fun, information, and actually are able to benefit from.
Into a socially acceptable process that will be exciting to anyone who wonders into our access points to the magazine into a business model. The to go even beyond that keep them from just sitting at home on a computer suffering from loneliness. This is where the dreaming and self discovery began in this area of the project. If we had realized how crazy we were in doing this at the time? We probably would of not jumped in with both feet! LOL.
Personally we think people are beyond connecting like the way those of us used to. To day its more about what we can do for me, or how much wealth I have, or how good looking we are, or some other shallow aspect of life. If your not perfect please don't apply. Sadly at the rate the US keeps making their people feel less perfect the more we will become more angry and distance from each other. We already see that in the class war fare and racial issues going on in our country.
There have been many attempts to create the look and feel of our web site. This has been study of love. (or hate depending on what mood we were in at the time). There will be one more final web site redo as we add the glitz of this process. We will begin a year long "in April 2013" Starting this month on a redo of all of our sites to get to the user experience to where we are looking to go in.
We put this site up due to our readers wanting something up until we could sort through the thousands of ,many web site concepts, the vendors, the software, technology, personnel, budget, design, and planning issues for the site. ( the planning process has taken over a year or two just in the planning process with one more year to go for implementation) -
Then there were the many discussions of what this project is, the idea of the broadcast shows, how they should be presented to show goers, the discussion of all the dreams we all still wanted to, and lots of conversation about great places and food! But it was very much needed. (the work and planning)
Year (2) 2011: was sort of the beginning of the project testing year's. From the beginning of this masters project we realized it would require a lots of internal discovery, some very long travel, long hours each day, low pay, and of course our having to support our staffs efforts in doing this type of magazine each month with out much help from others outside of our organizations and vendors we are working with. We discovered it was quite the adventure.
A note on the magazine- Yes its true - We do publish it (the digital magazine issue) on our own schedule monthly it arrives between the 10th of the month and on or before the 26th of the month. Some times its a combined issue. (i.e April/May for example) This is so our writers and sponsors can be allowed time in getting thier articles and gifts to us in a timely manner or if something cool needs to get out right away and we can hold off for that to get inputed into the issue.
Our Subscription Season Runs between - June 1st 2013 and June 1st 2014. During the 2013 season we will most likely publish 6 issues in the first half and more in the second half. Due to the price of the annual subscription or the monthly contract price, we can space out the issues so we can provide the type of content we are wanting to put out. Starting in 2014 we will publish approximately 13 to 18 issues a year for each subscriber we have. The bonus publications are new publications we are launching later this year and early next year.
In regards to the articles in each issue. Our editors play a role as to what articles are published and when. For example: The issue such as say a "March" issue usually contains information that relates to the month coming up "April" and so we are not so concerned on the exact date that the submitted and approved article is posted or when it hits your in-box so as you can see during the start up phase we kept the subscription price low and published a minimum of 8 issues a year or more. Thus we sort of publish it on our own terms. This helps our advertisers and writers who might be late in getting their materials to us during this start up phase, and it helps with planning for holiday issues, and our events and promotions.
However in the fall of 2013 and Winter 2014 we will be more formal with our deadlines as we have out grown our initial subscriber base and thus have to now set hard deadlines on delivery dates and submissions from both advertisers and writers. Besides we don't chase people around begging them to get their stuff in.The magazine is on sort of a long term development project. (our business plan covers a 50 year planning period) This a ongoing living project in which we can develop new ideas and content.
We sometimes can be mean in how we choose how we do things in terms of the choices we have to make. We look hard to find the solutions that both provide a solution a great cost but also actually either save us money on operation costs or bring in actual revenue or profit. Staying out of this "follow the herd" mentality in which most content companies we see these days is a challenge as they all want to push us in that direction.
This is most evident since we are not a "Big" publisher like other firms. Thankfully we have grown tremendously as far as interest in our readership base, potential subscribers, our local news offices. Then we adding our new upcoming printed issue division in late 2014 and this will add to the tremendous increase of online traffic we already have.
They (the people who do not support our paid subscription models) we love them too. (all though they scream dumb from time to time) - They however they are the same people who do love our parties (when we can put them on), free stuff, more free stuff, or activities in which they can connect with our paid readers and subscribers who support us on a one to one basis. All in an environment that the readers or subscribers feel is exciting. This is a challenge given the small staff we have in house. While we are increasing that staff we don't want to incur debt or costs without a good reason. So far that has not happened. Thus we outsource a fair amount of our less critical work, and do the most critical work in house. We hope that as we grow in paid subscribers or advertising we can provide more of these "exciting experiences" for the "free readers" and to even our "paid subscribers". Until then we will have to make do with the plans and schedules we have in the works. In the short term - They (the consumer) just has to pay to join prior to the parties or they don't get to come.
We have had a challenge in meeting of that demand for inquires for the magazine. And plan the sheer number of 1300 parties/shows that are currently being planned for 2014 and 2015 beyond due to our current focus on bringing our magazine platforms up to level for the readers that met our own vision and to be prepared for our official grand opening in 2014..(we are going to rent out an entire park, with tons of stuff the entire week). For those who were subscribers in 2013 and winter of 2014.
We apologize the party plan in 2012 was so limited. We would loved to have made all of our parties free? But we have to insure our costs for the parties are covered. While we thank you for requesting more parties and even through the last half of 2012 everyone was still wanting us to do them, we decided not have to many of them for our readers in 2012 as we were hit with a number of employee issues and health issues which were more important to get through - However, 2013 promises to pick up some of the slack as we have figured out most of the kinks in our event party model and plan on hosting a few of these in the summer and fall of 2013 leading up to our kick off year. We have even added some live broadcasts to our party model.
Year (3) 2012 - LAST YEAR - This was the year that the very nice version of the magazine was born in earnest. With greater articles, more writers, more ads, and more. But!: - Wow what can we say this was the weirdest, craziness, and actually one of the hardest' year's for us. Take 2011 and make it a hundred times more stressful. If we could of been any where else but UT when starting this at the time given the culture here and how they hate people who are different. Nor do they support tech companies and media companies who want greatly to expand. Add to that a cancer issues, treatments, healing, bills, medications its a wonder anyone survived this year. Sad part of all of this was the activities of those who were supposedly working with us and in the end were on a seperate agenda. Its the effect of the events that is driving the change in what we are doing in 2013.
Why do we approach this project in such a wacky way? Well when you have access to a minimum of 2 or 4 million people at a key stroke? We are not in a position to give away all of our secrets before its time. We have constantly preached our attempts to stay out of debt and rely on our revenues to pay the bills. Sometimes we know that is not always doable but nonetheless we try very hard to hold the line on this subject.
Thus if we have to put something off until we know its going to be paid for some how then in most cases we will put off doing it until then. However at some point we will grow to the point in which we will open up the projects to those interested in them. We have thousands of ideas in the works, tons of avenues to go in, and decades of experience to draw from to get there. We only like to work with people who have vision. No one with a vision has not failed first in order to understand that vision. We might even wait 3 or 5 years before rolling out a service or platform we are working on currently. Patience is our plan.
This works well for us, as we have seen in the past that what is hot, and cool at the time seems to disappear or evolves 5 years or more into the future into a different beast. Then the timing works great for our idea to be rolled out. It just depends on where we are at, and if we would rather spend time on the beach than dealing with the hassles of trying to roll out the service. Its not going to hurt us if we don't roll something out or not.
A lot of testing and sorting out of a ton of items outside of the magazine were our biggest challenge in 2012. In 2013 we have improved our operations as the masters project beings its final phases.
There was so many things weird about the 2012 year and the start of 2013 that it would take a book to fit them all in. We are just glad summer 2013 is here. Like they say no pain no gain.
Year (4 or 3.5 we lost track) 2013 - The masters project grows up as I mentioned above! - Well what can we say its a "New Year", New programs, new ideas, final edits, final changes, and launches of our programs. This is the last year of the masters project "Graduation" is coming soon.
We also apologize for our lack of a social presence in 2012. We wanted to spend some serious time looking at the various options that we had for the business and then took a serious look at the new plans for the site before we jumped in with both feet into our social space. So the social pages were not a big focus of ours in 2012. We hope you will forgive us..
In addition to those items mentioned above we have been focused on getting rid of debt and trying to keep the debt down to a minimum. A lot of people are wanting us to take on more and more debt. We are trying hard not to go down that road in 2013.
The start of the planning stage for a building process for a new HQ for the future for our needs, and the creation of new magazines, newspapers, books, shows (TV), broadcasts and more in 2013, 2014, and 2015.
We think this will still be one more of the final building years for us like 2012 before all of our building and organizational plan processes are completed and ready to be implemented.
We are starting to implement the various plans that are part of this stage of our 50 year business plan. Not with standing of the many obstacles we have faced by our competitors, our own mistakes, and those just wanting to keep us from doing what we are doing?
The main focus in 2013 is planning for our new state of the art HQ facility some where in the US to be built in 2016, and to manage those plans along side our debt reduction plans, streamling our operations, and the adding of the increased subscribers to our various new subscription plans which are in the process of being placed on board for the magazine.
We will be testing our live broadcast concepts this summer, and expanding in the fall our offerings to our readers. Plus we introduced the first magazine subscription plan in which the subscribers actually can receive a monthly income just for being a subscriber. In the form of bonus bucks which are convertible to cash, merchandise, or services. Thus we are looking forward to 2014, and 2015 as our biggest break out years for us. Of over a few dozen + millions in sales or more.
It will be cheaper to join us now for sure as a subscriber and you will have access to more exclusive benefits earlier and more often than those that may not be open to future subscribers at all. However,
That is your choice. For those who have continued to support us even through all of the trials we thank you as we are sure there are many trials to yet go through. Its how you grow. Even if it means going against everyone else's wishes or beliefs sometimes. For the new subscribers currently coming into our space welcome! and for those who wish to wait your welcome to wait.. Your welcome to keep looking at our updates and going on and we wish you all the best in what ever your plans are. We apologize also for closing the subscription process for several months while we did a bit of house cleaning and added some new stuff along with some infrastructure to support all these things we do.
